Sculpture in the 20th century

The sculptures of Aristide Maillol left a fundamental mark on modern art in the 20th century. Born in 1861, Aristide Maillol became prosperous when he took up sculpture in bronze at the age of 40. Less well known for his drawings and contemporary paintings, Maillol nevertheless had the opportunity to meet famous artists of the period, such as Matisse or Bonnard, who became his friends.

Dina Vierny, the artist's main model for more than 10 years, decided at his death to preserve and promote his work in the Maillol Museum, supported by the Dina Vierny foundation.
